Enough to Make Your Blood Boil Though You Wont Be Covered

Every once in awhile there is a revelation about big companies that makes my blood boil. This is one of them. If you discount what Wendell Potter of CIGNA says by half, you will still be upset at both the deception and power of the health insurance companies and the ignorance and lack of spine of the U.S. Congress.

I will post another blog about this after I review it and ask hard questions of friends who have occupied high places in our health care industry.

That’s my view. What’s yours?

  1. I am very conservative and think government should generally only be in the business of doing the public good when there is no commercial alternative. Having said that, healthcare is completely out of control and I can think of no single industry more in need of a government takeover (enema) and nationalization than healthcare. Let’s hope and pray that a few in Congress get enough of a spine to act before the health insurance industry completely bankrupts this country. I worked in healthcare for the first 18 years of my career and have seen no real improvement what so ever compared to the old model where hospitals were not-for-profits and health insurance was tightly regulated by the states. It has all been downhill since the 1980s. I have worked and managed people in England and Canada, and traveled extensively in Australia and New Zealand and would gladly trade our health system for theirs.

How Ordinary People Become
Extraordinary Leaders

by Stephen H. Baum (Random House)

Most leaders of American companies started out as ordinary people. What prepared them for the top job?

Countless more ordinary people of equal talent never developed the leadership core required to run the show. Why not?

"Lessons for life about the core leadership traits of character, risk taking decisiveness and the ability to engage and inspire followers."
--Jim Clifton, CEO, The Gallup Organization
