Fixing America: NBA Joins the Ranks of Cheats

Just For Fun

As if we did not have enough agita with the NFL and Patriots Spying, it has come to light that referees — yes, referees — in the NBA were (1) making calls to favor one team over another, (2) advising the coaches of what they were doing and (3) betting on the games. Unless and until the fans find this unacceptable, it won’t matter.

And scalpers will be selling sports tickets at prices for what is really a lame stageplay.

Is there data? The Ethics Resource Center has recently published its 2007 workplace survey of almost 2000 respondents in business. While there are more formal ethics and compliance programs than ever before, the bad news is that “Ethical misconduct is ….at pre-Enron levels.” More than half the employees surveyed saw unethical conduct of some kind.

In future posts, we will review the actual data. Why? Because with so many unethical acts by our government agencies, representatives in Congress, organized religion, academe and business (did I leave anyone out?), unless the people believe that this is the road to ruin, unless the people demand a higher standard we will get what we deserve and it wont be pretty.

Extraordinary Leaders

"Lessons for life about the core leadership traits of character, risk taking decisiveness and the ability to engage and inspire followers."
--Jim Clifton, CEO, The Gallup Organization
